Ahobilam

Ahobhilam also known as Ahobalam is located in the Allagadda mandal of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located at a distance of 40 km from Nandyal and about 150 km from Kurnool, the district headquarters.There are two temple houses, lower Ahobilam and upper Ahobilam. According to the legend, this is where Lord Narasimha blessed Prahlada and killed the demon Hiranyakashipu.

Mahanandi

Mahanandi Village in Kurnool, is situated to the east of Nallamala Hills. The nine nandis called as ‘Navanandis’ can be seen from the village. The Mahanandiswara Swamy Temple is the prime attraction of the village, belonging to the Chalukyan period. It is devoted to Lord Mahanandiswara, one of the forms of Lord Shiva. The festival of Magha Bhula Chaturdasi is celebrated here in the month of February or March

 

Saibaba Temple

The Saibaba Temple is counted amongst the biggest Saibaba temples in India and covers an area of around 1.5 acres. The temple was opened for public in 2001. The idol of Saibaba is made from marble stones. The temple also has idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Hanuman. The meditation hall of the temple has the capacity to accommodate around 800 devotees.

 

 

Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple

Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is situated in the town of Srisailam, at an elevation of around 457 m. The temple was built by the Vijayanagar king, Harihara. Peta Anjaneyaswami Temple

TPeta Anjaneyaswami Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, also known as Anjaneya Swamy. The temple is visited by many travellers during the occasion of Tirupati Srinivasaswamy car festival. This festival is held in the month of November or December and lasts for five days.

 

 

Yaganti Shiva Temple

Yaganti Shiva Temple is situated in Yaganti Town. It was constructed in the 15th century as per Vaishnavite tradition, by the Vijayanagar rulers. The temple has the Agastya Pushkarni, where water flows from the bottom of the hill, throughout the year. Worshippers take a dip in the holy Pushkarni. The place is renowned for caves like the Agastya Caves, Venkateswara Caves and Veera Brahmam Caves.

Srisailam Dam

The Srisailam Dam is constructed across the Krishna River, at an elevation of about 300 m. The construction of the dam started in 1960 and was completed in 1981. The dam is among the 12 largest hydroelectric projects in India and has 12 radial crest gates.

 

 

Nallamala Hills

Nallamala Hills, also known as the Nallamalla Range, is part of the Eastern Ghats. It spreads over the districts of Guntur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Prakasam and Mahabubnagar. The highest peak of the Nallamala Hills is the 2,835 ft high Sikhareswaram. The Chenchu tribe is the main settlement of the Nallamala Hills. The Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Sanctuary is situated near the hills.

 

Rollapadu Bird Sanctuary

Rollapadu Bird Sanctuary covers an area of around 614 sq. km. The dry thorny forests of the sanctuary are covered with cotton, castor, dry cereal crops and groundnut. The sanctuary is home to jackals, Indian foxes, wolves, Indian cobras and the endangered great Indian bustards. Birds like sparrows, Indian rollers and mynas can be seen in the sanctuary. October through February is considered the ideal time to visit the sanctuary.

 

 

Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary

Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary lies on the border of Prakasam and Kurnool districts. It covers an area of around 1,194 sq. km. and has mixed deciduous forests. Wild dogs, nilgai, mouse deer, monkeys, tigers, sloth bears, panthers, chinkara and pythons are some of the animals seen in the sanctuary. Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Sanctuary

Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Sanctuary is located in Srisailam Town and covers an area of around 3,568 sq. km. This sanctuary is considered to be the largest Tiger Reserve in the country. The sanctuary is home to tigers, palm civets, sloth bears, deer, bonnet macaques and hyenas, among others.
